For brokers, 3PLs, forwarders and shippers

Vet any carrier against fleets its own size.

Whether you broker the load, run a 3PL, forward freight or ship your own, look up any of 321,000+ active fleets by name or DOT number, or pull a whole state by fleet size. Each carrier’s safety is compared with fleets its own size, and the ones with too few inspections to judge are marked that way instead of being failed.

You’ve probably run into this

A carrier with clean trucks hasn’t been pulled in for an inspection in a year or two, and your vetting tool fails it for that. So you pass on a carrier that could have hauled the load. If you broker freight or run a 3PL, you’re back to calling down the list at 4 PM on a Friday. If you forward freight or ship your own, it sits on the dock waiting for a truck.

What you get

No inspections isn’t a bad record.

When a carrier has fewer than 10 inspections in the last 24 months, its safety shows in gray as “Not enough data”, with the reason written out, for example “Only 4 inspections in 24 months. That is too few to judge.” It doesn’t get a red mark for something that hasn’t happened.

Compared with fleets its own size.

Carriers are grouped by 1–5, 6–20, 21–100 and 101+ power units. A 3-truck fleet is measured against other fleets of 1 to 5 trucks, not a 3,000-truck carrier. Green means better than most similar fleets, yellow means typical, and red means worse than most. A truck out-of-service rate over 30% or a driver rate over 10% is red at any size.

How to spot a chameleon carrier.

A chameleon carrier is a company that gets shut down and reopens under a new DOT number. FleetSniper flags possible links to other DOT numbers that share an address, phone number, email or first listed officer, so you can see the pattern before you book the load. Authority and insurance filings update overnight, so the status you check in the morning reflects yesterday’s filings.

FleetSniper safety card for a 1–5 truck fleet with only 1 inspection: every row is gray and marked “Not enough data”FleetSniper safety card for a 21–100 truck fleet with 61 inspections: rows colored green, yellow and red against fleets of the same size
Small fleets with thin data show gray, not red.

Our carrier data is fresher than this morning’s coffee.

FleetSniper updates every night. New carriers are added every day, so the list you open with your first cup already has yesterday’s new authorities in it.
